NOKOMIS
CHAIN OF LAKES
The Lake Nokomis Concerned
Citizens is dedicated to enhancing the recreational,
environmental and economic value of this beautiful body
of water. Since LNCC’s inception we have been stressing
how the Nokomis Chain of Lakes, which includes Nokomis,
Bridge and Deer Lakes, enhances the quality of life for
every person in the area. You may live on it, take your
family fishing, swimming, water skiing, have fun on a
personal watercraft, or simply enjoy the beauty of a
sunset or appreciate the beauty of the sun reflecting
off the water as you drive by. Our local economy
benefits enormously from the visitors who are attracted
to our area due to this wonderful body of water.
Over the last several years
we have accomplished, with the help of our area
townships and organizations, some things we would like
to share with you. We have:
·
Begun an
eradication effort to eliminate Eurasian Water Milfoil.
·
Completed a
comprehensive lake study.
·
Provided
valuable information to area residents on shoreline
zoning, water quality issues, water safety concerns and
recreational improvements.
·
Placed “no
wake” buoys in high traffic areas; and
·
Placed
navigational buoys between Bridge and Deer Lakes.
·
Aided in the
anchoring of a destructive Bog
We are proud of these
accomplishments and we are continuing to work with the
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wisconsin Valley
Improvement Co. (WVIC), and the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC) toward the continued health
of this important body of water.
Currently we have several
projects at hand. We completed contracting with a company to
move and anchor the large bog that is in the bay near RR
Gators and Cedarwood Vacation Homes Resort. This bog
caused major destruction to those who live along the
shores of this bay. Another important project is to
eradicate Eurasian Milfoil that has been detected in
Nokomis and Bridge Lakes. The LNCC is very concerned
about the infestation since it can literally turn a
beautiful body of water into a swamp. This project has
become one of our most important efforts in the history
of this 25-year old organization.
You will notice a common
thread winding through all of these projects—the
cooperation between townships, the DNR, WVIC, FERC and
the LNCC to accomplish common goals. A single
organization could not have accomplished many of these
things without the shared cooperation of these other
groups.
“What’s Great About
Tomahawk?” The LNCC thinks it is the ability to work
together to protect and enhance a wonderful area asset,
the Nokomis Chain of Lakes. Come and join our
organization so you can say you believe in our shared
dedication to a healthy chain of lakes that is so
important and invaluable!
